Tasting Notes
The dense dark red colour gives strong suggestion of good things to come, including fruit characters of blackberry, raspberry, cherry and plum with a lick of spicy vanillin oak. The palate is full with rich ripe dark berry fruits intermixed with plum pudding, liquorice all-sorts, pepper and spice with fine tannins keeping everything in check.
Winemaker's Notes
The 2007 vintage was a terrific one with plenty of sunshine for close to perfect autumn ripening. There was no problem getting the Shiraz grapes flavour and tannin ripe with balanced crops and canopies. In fact 2007 proved to be one of the best years for Shiraz in Margaret River for some time.
The 2007 Juniper Crossing Shiraz is made as a bright fruit driven style with very moderate oak influence. It is a wine to enjoy now and for at least the next 7 years.
Viticulture & Vinification
The Shiraz fruit for this wine was harvested at the end of March with 65% from ourlong term contract grower in the Margaret River region while the remaining 35% was from your old Estate vines planted in 1973. Picking occured between 17-24th March. The Baume range was between13.9 - 14.2 Be°.
The grapes were de-stemmed prior to being pumped to the fermentation tank where the must was inoculated with yeast and fermentation began. The wine was pumped over twice a day for extraction of colour and tannin with time on skins ranging from 10-14 days. The batches were blended after malo lactic fermentation and matured for a minimum of 14 months in French oak barriques of which 10% was new. Bottled in December 2008.
