Tasting Notes
This is a fresh lively style of wine, with a bright strawberry colour. The nose exhibits lifted fruit characters of raspberry, red cherry & redcurrant along with spice & dried herbs. The palate is fine, soft, juicy and full with ripe berry, spice and red liquorice flavours. The finish is fresh, savoury, crisp and dry. Best served chilled as an aperitif or alternatively, given its compatibility with varied cuisines, with a wide range of foods from Mediterranean to spicy Asian styles.
Winemaker's Notes
The 2009 vintage turned out to be quite a fine one; the summer was warm, but not hot. During harvest the days were sunny & the nights cool, which contributed to good flavour development in the grapes & good retention of the flavour during picking. This wine is under a screw cap closure and will drink well for at least 2 years. Viticulture & Vinification
The grapes for this wine were de-stemmed, chilled & gently pumped into tanks before the juice was drained off the skins after 12 to 24 hours soaking, once the desired colour and flavour was achieved. The juice was cold settled before being inoculated with a Pinot Noir yeast to enhance the spicy characters in the grapes and the ferment was kept cold (12°C) to maintain the bright berry fruit characters. The wine is a blend of 40% Shiraz, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot & 15% Tempranillo.
